Exclusivity and Exclusion

There is truth in the old adage about the best laid plans going awry and in some cases it is through no fault of the planner.

Case in point is my being dinged and having a promotion for the website placed on a yahoo group where I was a member. My post was removed because bestbooksyouneverread.com does not promote GLBT works exlusively. The purpose the site was created was to bring attention to undiscovered and underdiscovered writers and their works.

Some of the groups are so loaded with rules that they all but exclude any type of successful networking. There is no single group of people on the Internet that can financially support any endeavor.

Bestbooksyouneverread.com was created to bring greater exposure to the works of undiscovered or underdiscovered writers of all genres. It is not a revenue generating site. It is a marketplace for writers, booksellers and readers. It is a networking opportunity to reach people beyond the group circles.

What I find odd is that some writers but forth so much effort and energy into creating a marketable product and then sit back and wait to be discovered. They shop it around a small circle of people rarely understanding that work of mouth works great for some products but for literature, music and the arts in general buyers are looking for something that will reach out and grab their attention, in other words it needs to be seen! Just because a book isn't picked up by a major publisher doesn't mean there aren't people waiting to read it, no matter what the subject area.

Another thing I find odd is that some writers interested in listing their works on bestbooksyouneverread.com are reluctant to provide excerpts from their books or even so much as a short bio on themselves. As fiction writers neither of these should be difficult to provide.

Maybe its just me but have you read any good books by any unknown writers lately? Have you read any not so good books by any well known writers lately?

Perhaps reluctance on the part of the writer to bring their books to the attention of the mass reading public is why they remain the best books people have never read!
